Yoruba nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho,on Monday said he was still awaiting approval from the Federal Government to commence operations of his proposed security outfit, Iru Ekun Security Network, aimed at flushing out criminal elements from forests in the South-West.
Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan, Ibadan, noting that all required documentation for the registration of the outfit had been duly submitted to relevant authorities.
He expressed optimism that approval would be granted soon, adding that the security initiative was designed to complement existing efforts to curb rising insecurity, particularly in rural communities across the region.
“We have submitted all the necessary documents for our registered security firm and are only awaiting Federal Government approval, which we believe will be granted soon,” he said.
Igboho stated that the outfit would work in collaboration with key security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to tackle banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.
He said, “We are fully prepared to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the security sector to flush out terrorists, kidnappers, bandits and other hoodlums threatening the peace and safety of our people, especially in rural areas.”
The activist also pledged to comply with the recently introduced Executive Order 001 of 2026 signed by Seyi Makinde, which regulates the operations of private security outfits and related groups in Oyo State.
The order, signed last week, mandates all security-related associations and organisations to operate within a structured legal and operational framework to enhance coordination, accountability, and public safety.
Makinde had said the directive became necessary amid growing security concerns and the proliferation of unregulated vigilante groups across the state.
Aligning with the directive, Igboho reaffirmed his readiness to operate within the confines of the law and support government efforts to strengthen security architecture in the region.
He commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a renewed commitment to addressing insecurity nationwide.
“It is evident that the current administration is resolute in tackling criminality, not only in the South-West but across all regions affected by insecurity,” he said.
Igboho further stressed that improved security was critical to economic growth, warning that persistent attacks on rural communities could undermine agricultural productivity and threaten food security.
“Without peace and security, meaningful socio-economic development cannot thrive, particularly in rural communities that serve as the backbone of agricultural production and livelihoods,” he added.
