A commercial tricycle rider from Imo State, identified as Chijioke, has recounted a harrowing kidnapping experience that, according to him, changed the course of his life after returning to Nigeria from Malaysia.…....
Speaking in an interview with Punch Newspapers, Chijioke said he was ambushed by armed men shortly after visiting his hometown in Imo State in 2019.
He explained that the incident occurred when he stepped out to fix a punctured tyre, unaware that he was being tracked by kidnappers.
In his words, he said: “I went to pump my tyre. After pumping the tyre then on my way going home, I was double-crossed with Pathfinder jeep. Four boys came out with AK-47. So they now carried me and used my singlet to tie my eyes. I couldn’t see anything so they used their gun to hit me and took me to unknown location.”
Chijioke said the attackers blindfolded and assaulted him before taking him to an undisclosed location where he was held captive.
He added that the ordeal left him deeply traumatised and placed a heavy emotional and financial burden on his family, who struggled to meet ransom demands during his captivity.
According to him, after regaining his freedom, his plans after returning from Malaysia were completely disrupted, forcing him to remain in Nigeria and start working as a commercial tricycle operator, popularly known as Keke, in order to survive.
