Benin City, Edo State — The Edo State Police Command has arrested several suspected kidnappers allegedly involved in the abduction of a woman at the popular Vegetable Market along Airport Road in Benin City, recovering weapons, cash, and other items during a series of intelligence-led operations.
The suspects were apprehended following investigations into the kidnapping incident, which occurred on June 14, 2026, and sparked widespread concern among residents after reports of the abduction surfaced online.
According to the police, operatives of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) tracked down members of the gang during coordinated operations across Edo and neighboring Delta State. One of the principal suspects, identified as Marvelous Isaac, was arrested during a tactical operation, while another suspect reportedly died during an exchange of gunfire with security operatives.
Further investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects believed to be connected to the kidnapping syndicate. Preliminary findings indicated that the suspects played various roles in the planning and execution of the crime.
Items recovered from the suspects include a Lexus RX 350 sport utility vehicle allegedly used during the operation, a pump-action shotgun, live cartridges, a motorcycle, and more than ₦2 million suspected to be proceeds from criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika, commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication. He reiterated the command’s commitment to combating kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes across the state.
The police also urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could aid ongoing efforts to improve public safety.
