India-Nordic summit 2026: Date, what’s on agenda, leaders attending and key issues

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, Norway, on May 19, where leaders from five Nordic countries will hold talks with India on trade, technology, renewable energy, defence and global issues.

The five Nordic nations include Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland.

India-Nordic summit: Edition
The first summit was held in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2018, while the second edition took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 2022. This year’s Oslo meeting will mark the third edition of the summit.

The Ministry of External Affairs said, “PM Modi’s visit will also provide an impetus to India’s bilateral trade and investment ties with Nordic countries as well as help build resilient supply chains following the India-EU FTA (Free Trade Agreement) and India-EFTA TEPA (a trade and economic partnership agreement between India and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland).”

India-Nordic 3rd summit: Agenda

The summit is expected to focus on some of the biggest global and economic issues affecting countries right now. India and the Nordic countries want to increase business ties, investments and technology partnerships.

The Nordic countries export green technology, industrial machinery and renewable energy to India while India exports pharmaceuticals, machinery and consumer goods like textiles.

The trade between India and the Nordic countries together reached about $19 billion in 2024. Several major Nordic companies such as Nokia and IKEA, already operate in India.

A major focus will be on climate change and moving towards cleaner energy sources. The Nordic countries are considered global leaders in renewable energy, electric mobility, sustainability and green technologies.

India wants to work with them on areas such as solar and wind energy, green hydrogen, sustainable cities, electric vehicles, waste management and low-carbon technologies.

The countries may also discuss energy security, global conflicts like Russia’s war on Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East that have affected oil and gas prices worldwide.

The leaders are expected to discuss alternative energy sources and renewable energy projects. The summit will also focus heavily on technology cooperation as Nordic countries are strong in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure and clean tech-innovation.

One major part of the deal is a plan to bring around $100 billion in foreign investment into India over 15 years.

India-Nordic 3rd summit: Who’s attending
