An Iranian official has claimed that a memorandum of understanding aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East has been reached through mediation involving Pakistan and Qatar, according to remarks reported by Al Jazeera.
The official reportedly stated that Tehran is now awaiting a response from the United States regarding the proposed agreement.
According to the statement, the memorandum includes provisions for ending the ongoing conflict, lifting blockades, reopening the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted navigation, and the withdrawal of American forces from the war zone.
The Iranian official further noted that nuclear-related issues were deliberately excluded from the current understanding, describing them as “complex” matters that would require separate and longer negotiations.
He added that nuclear talks could potentially begin 30 days after the signing of the proposed memorandum.
The official also claimed that Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Asim Munir, had initially been expected to announce the agreement in Tehran before departing to coordinate discussions with Washington.
According to the remarks, Qatar played a significant role in drafting the memorandum, while mediators reportedly maintained communication with U.S. officials throughout the process.
The Iranian source maintained that Tehran would not make concessions beyond the terms already outlined in the understanding.
As of press time, there has been no official confirmation from the United States, Pakistan, or Qatar regarding the reported memorandum or the claims made by the Iranian official.Continue »
