A coalition of civil society organisations in Osun State under the aegis of the Network of Civil Society Groups has given the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, a 72-hour ultimatum to review the leadership of the Osun State Police Command.
Addressing journalists on behalf of the coalition in Osogbo, the Convener of the Citizenship and Citizen Awareness Centre, Comrade Demola Yaya, said the call was informed by concerns over public confidence in the command’s ability to effectively address security challenges in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the coalition, the Convener of the Citizenship and Citizen Awareness Centre, Comrade Demola Yaya, condemned the killing of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade, who was allegedly shot dead by suspected political hoodlums in Irepodun Local Government Area.
He expressed concern that since the last public demonstration by civil society organisations demanding the removal of the Commissioner of Police, Osun State has witnessed a rise in killings and violent attacks.
Comrade Yaya called for a comprehensive review of the Osun State Police Command, arguing that such a measure would help restore public confidence in law enforcement and enhance security management across the state.
Responding to the allegations, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, dismissed claims of bias in the handling of politically related violence in the state, describing them as unfounded.
CP Gotan said his conscience was clear, insisting that the command had recorded notable successes in crime-fighting and public safety.
