Operatives of the Sokoto State Police Command have foiled a planned bandit attack in the state after engaging suspected armed bandits in a gun battle, killing one suspect and recovering an AK-47 rifle with ammunition. According to the police, the operation dealt a significant blow to criminal elements operating in the area.
The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Ahmed Musa, said the operation was carried out following credible intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits. Police operatives swiftly mobilised to the area, where they intercepted the suspects and engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
The police said one of the suspected bandits was neutralised during the operation, while others escaped with gunshot wounds into nearby forests. Security operatives recovered an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and other items believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing members of the gang, while urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest security agency.
The Sokoto State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations and working with other security agencies to combat banditry and other violent crimes across the state.
