During a televised discussion on the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, Watters claimed the Iranian government benefits politically from remaining in a prolonged state of conflict while simultaneously fearing the consequences of escalation.
“The Iranians love the cease-fire. If we bomb them again, it hurts them. If we cut them a deal, it hurts them,” Watters Said, suggesting that Iran faces difficult choices regardless of how negotiations with Washington proceed.
Watters also argued that the Iranian government risks losing domestic support if tensions continue without resolution. “They risk a revolution and lose leverage. Iran’s frozen on a war footing and it actually freezes the regime in power,” he said.
