The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly denied top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) access to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who is currently in its custody.
The visit, which drew political attention on Friday, involved senior members of the opposition party who arrived at the ICPC premises in Abuja.
ADC Heavyweights Turned Back at ICPC Gate
Those on the delegation included:
- ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola
- National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi
- Party chieftain, Salihu Lukman
However, sources say the team was not allowed into the facility as they were turned back shortly after arrival.
The reason for the refusal was not immediately disclosed by the commission, leaving the situation unclear as of press time.
El-Rufai Still in Custody
El-Rufai, a former Kaduna State governor, is currently being held by the ICPC over undisclosed issues.
His detention has continued to generate reactions from political allies and stakeholders across party lines.
ICPC Defends Detention Protocols
The anti-graft agency had earlier dismissed reports alleging poor treatment of the former governor, including claims that he was being denied access to food, family, or medical care.
The commission insisted that access is strictly regulated and only granted to approved individuals such as:
- Legal representatives
- Medical personnel
- Family members (under supervision)
Political Tension Rises
As of the time of filing this report, neither the ICPC nor the ADC has issued an official explanation for the blocked visit.
It also remains unclear whether another attempt will be made to see the former governor.
The development continues to spark political discussions within opposition circles ahead of the 2027 political season.
