Zaria Local Government Area in Kaduna State has trained and empowered 200 beneficiaries with vocational skills and startup support, in a move aimed at boosting self-reliance and reducing unemployment across the constituency.
The Executive Chairman of Zaria LGA, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad (Jaga), presided over the first graduation ceremony of participants who completed a four-week intensive vocational training programme. The initiative was organised by the Abbas Tajudeen Movement (ATM) for Uba Sani & Asiwaju Victory 2027 Orphan and Women Cooperative Society, with support from Malam Iliyasu Balarabe (Jagaban Iyan Zazzau), Deputy Chief of Staff (Administration) to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
The programme focused on practical skills development, including tailoring, shoemaking, catering services and cosmetics production. Beneficiaries were drawn from Kwarbai B Ward and other communities across the 13 wards of Zaria Federal Constituency, reflecting a broad inclusion of women and vulnerable groups.
At the ceremony held at the Local Government Secretariat Hall, the 200 trainees were not only certified but also received cash empowerment to support their transition into business. The intervention is expected to strengthen grassroots entrepreneurship and improve household incomes.
Engr. Jaga, in his remarks, congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply the skills acquired to achieve economic independence. He described the initiative as impactful and commended Malam Iliyasu Balarabe for facilitating what he called “a transformative programme that supports sustainable community development.”
The chairman also hosted leaders of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Zaria chapter, who presented him with a customised banner in recognition of his leadership.
