“May God open a way for us so that poverty can one day end. Such a heartbreaking farewell. The late Weldon was laid to rest in a simple coffin made from timber offcuts, half-covered with a sheet, the only send-off his family could afford,” a post read.
Weldon buried in emotional ceremony
The coffin appeared incomplete, with pieces of wood patched together as the family tried to make it look presentable for the deceased.
It was placed on a wooden table as mourners stood a few metres away, paying their final respects on the sombre afternoon.
The mourners’ faces reflected deep sorrow as they bid Weldon farewell for the last time.
Many online users said the coffin highlighted not only the family’s struggles but also the level of poverty within the wider community, as villagers seemingly could not afford to provide a better send-off.
