Suspected kidnappers have a k!lled a 27-year-old staff member of the Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Orseer Nyagu.
It was gathered that Nyagu was k!lled while attempting to escape after being abducted along the Agagbe-Naka road in Gwer West Local Government Area of the state.
According to family members and colleagues, the victim was kidnapped alongside two other travellers while returning to Naka.
Sources close to the family disclosed that the kidnappers contacted relatives after about two days in captivity and allegedly demanded a ransom of N15 million for the victims’ release.
The amount was reportedly negotiated down to N500,000.
However, before the ransom payment could be completed, Nyagu allegedly attempted to escape from the kidnappers’ custody. He was reportedly k!lled in the process.
The two other victims who remained with the abductors were later released and safely reunited with their families.
Activist Ukan Kurugh, who confirmed the incident in a Facebook post on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, lamented the worsening insecurity affecting several communities in Benue State.
He called for urgent action to address rising cases of kidnapping and violence along rural roads.
