A mother of one has suddenly become a mother of five after giving birth to quadruplets, leaving her and her husband with mixed emotions.

Rachel Simba, a 28-year-old woman, successfully gave birth via caesarean section to four beautiful babies at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre.

She delivered the babies at seven months and three weeks, forcing them to be admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) as doctors monitored their condition closely.

“I gave birth to three beautiful girls and one handsome boy. When I was pregnant, I felt like I was carrying twins. I never imagined they would be more than two. I realised it based on the babies’ movements in my womb. Since I had given birth before, I knew for sure there was more than one baby because the movements felt different. As I approached six months, that is when I realised I was carrying more than two babies,” Rachel said.

What’s Rachel’s biggest challenge?

She opened up about one major challenge she faced during the pregnancy, which was the positioning of the babies in the womb, making it difficult for her to deliver naturally.

Rachel had to undergo surgery to ensure the babies were delivered safely without complications.

“Taking care of all the children is challenging because they were born at seven months and three weeks, so they have many needs. They need diapers, milk, and other essentials. Breastfeeding all of them using only my own milk is impossible because I cannot satisfy all their needs,” she added.

Rachel, however, appreciated her husband for the support he gave her throughout the pregnancy, saying he helped her overcome many fears.
