Lagos Rep Appeals to Tinubu Over Primary Election Crisis

Dr. Adesola Adedayo, member representing Apapa Federal Constituency Lagos in the House of Representatives, has pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to wade into the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the shadow election to nominate candidates for the upcoming National Assembly election.

Daughter of the president and Iyaloja-General of Nigeria, Mrs Folasade Tinubu-Ojo also condemned the conduct of the primary election on Wednesday, 27 May, 2026, in Lagos.

Speaking when visited by market leaders in her Alausa office, she threatened to lead a protest against the party which has her father as the apex national leader, if those she claimed were rightful winners in Lagos are not immediately given their tickets.

She identified groups within the party which she alleged were responsible for the crisis but silent on the individuals.
Adedayo in a statement on Thursday, 28 May, 2026, in Lagos expressed confidence in the Nigerian leader to do justice once he steps into the crisis.

He also asked his supporters to remain calm as they await final decision in the appeal challenging the outcome of the poll.
Adedayo who is seeking a second term said he is putting his trust in President Bola Tinubu and the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to redress the injustice done to him and his supporters.
In his appeal challenging the primary election, Adedayo said hundreds of his supporters were disenfranchised when it was discovered that his queues had already outnumbered those of his rivals.

Adedayo is seeking to either be declared the winner of the election or in the least; the cancellation and repeat of the exercise.
The appeal committee members from the national headquarters of the party had concluded their assignment and returned to Abuja.
The national leadership is yet to pronounce on the recommendations of the committee.
While urging his supporters to stay calm, the medical doctor-turned politician said as a committed member of the party, he would not do anything to rock the boat of the party despite the clear injustice meted out to him and his supporters.

He noted that he has been at the forefront of mobilizing for the reelection of the president and being from his home state, he would not do anything to bring the party either into crisis or disrepute because of his ambition.
Adedayo added that with the long-standing record of the president as a constitutional democrat, he has come to trust and respect the Nigerian leader as fair-minded and one who would not allow the daylight robbery that defined his alleged primary loss, to stand.

“I trust President Tinubu. I have been his political disciple for decades. He is fair-minded and doing justice is his forte. I trust our party national leadership too, especially the National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda. We have made our case to the appeal committee and I believe we presented enough material evidence to back up our claim that what happened on the primary election day was premeditated. There was a plan to stop me at all costs.

“But I restrained my supporters from confronting them, because it would have been very bloody and my ambition is not worth the blood of anyone in the constituency. But we will keep exploring the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanism in making our case.

“I have told my people and still using this medium to charge them that violence is not our way; it has never been and it won’t start now, not when all hands must be on the deck to ensure a landslide reelection win for the President.

“Already we have shifted our focus to the president reelection project even as we keep demanding for justice in the most peaceful way possible” the statement read.
