Lagos Set for National TVET Conference 2026 to Boost Youth Employment

Lagos will host the National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Conference 2026 from June 8 to 10 as stakeholders intensify efforts to strengthen skills development, expand employment opportunities, and support industrial growth in Nigeria.

The conference is being convened by the Federal Ministry of Education and the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB).

With the theme, “Harnessing TVET as a Pathway to Employment: Building a System for Employability, Inclusion, and Green Growth in Nigeria,” the event will bring together representatives from government institutions, industry, academia, development organisations, and civil society groups to discuss strategies for improving Nigeria’s TVET ecosystem.

According to the organisers, the conference will focus on strengthening coordination among stakeholders and accelerating reforms that can make technical and vocational education more responsive to labour market needs.

The event comes at a time when Nigeria is seeking practical solutions to youth unemployment and skills gaps across key sectors of the economy. Discussions are expected to explore ways to build a more inclusive and sustainable TVET system that equips young people with industry-relevant skills while supporting economic development.

Organisers described the conference as an opportunity to convert ongoing reforms into coordinated, scalable and sustainable actions that can improve employability and unlock opportunities for Nigeria’s growing youth population.

The conference is supported by the governments of Germany, Switzerland, South Korea and France. It is being organised in collaboration with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and several development partners, including the European Union (EU) Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), International Organization for Migration (IOM), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Young African International (YAI), British Council and Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA).
