A man has sparked reactions online after recounting an experience he had during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year involving his landlady and her daughter.
The man explained that while serving, he rented an apartment where his landlady lived with her grown-up daughter.
According to him, the daughter frequently brought him meals, a gesture he initially considered an act of kindness.
Over time, however, he began noticing what he described as subtle signs that suggested there might have been more behind the hospitality.
Frequent visits raise questions
The former corps member said the daughter regularly spent time in his apartment, often staying late to watch television with him. He noted that despite the frequent visits, his landlady never raised any concerns or objections.
As the situation continued, he decided to invite his then-girlfriend, who is now his wife, to visit him. He believed the visit would help clarify his relationship status without the need for any direct conversations.
Explaining what happened next, the man narrated:
“I started noticing signs. The daughter would come over to my place, sit down, and watch TV with me till late, and the mother never complained. Not once”
Online reactions trail story
The account has since generated discussion on social media, with many users debating whether the landlady and her daughter genuinely had romantic intentions or whether the man may have misinterpreted the situation.
Others shared similar experiences involving perceived expectations attached to acts of kindness, while some argued that the sudden change in attitude after the girlfriend’s visit suggested disappointment from one or both parties.
