Longest-Serving Reps Member Nicholas Mutu Loses APC Ticket After 27 Years in National Assembly

Nicholas Mutu, who represents the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has lost the APC primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mutu, widely regarded as Nigeria’s longest-serving member of the House of Representatives, has been in the National Assembly since 1999, serving for about 27 years.

In the primary election, Basil Okolobaowei Ganagana emerged winner with 14,650 votes. Mutu polled 1,093 votes.

Other contestants in the race included Chris Ekiyor, who scored 287 votes, and Preye Okaba, who got 609 votes.

The outcome marks the end of Mutu’s bid to return to the House under the APC platform after nearly three decades in office.
