A dramatic late-night military operation in Borno State has left two suspected terrorists dead after troops of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), reportedly launched a surprise ambush on insurgents in a notorious terrorist route.
The intense operation, which unfolded in Konduga Local Government Area, has sparked fresh reactions as details continue to emerge about what happened during the midnight encounter.
According to reports shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the military strike was carried out under the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity/Siege Operations aimed at crushing terrorist activities across the North-East.
Security sources revealed that the operation happened around 11:05 p.m. on May 13, 2026, in Bazamri village — an area reportedly known as a strategic movement corridor frequently used by suspected ISWAP fighters.
In what appeared to be a carefully planned military trap, troops allegedly laid in wait for the insurgents before intercepting them during movement. Moments later, gunfire erupted as soldiers engaged the suspects in a fierce exchange.
By the end of the operation, two suspected terrorists had been neutralised, while troops successfully secured the area without recording any casualty on the side of the military.
But the real surprise reportedly came after the shooting stopped.
During a follow-up clearance exercise, troops recovered several items believed to have been intended as logistics support for terrorist operations. Among the materials reportedly seized were dozens of detergent packs, bags of salt, and cartons of spaghetti — supplies security sources suspect may have been heading toward insurgent camps.
Recovered items included 54 packs of 80-gram detergent, 32 packs of 500-gram salt, and one carton of spaghetti.
Military authorities reportedly confirmed that all personnel involved in the operation returned safely, with no injuries or fatalities recorded among the troops.
Sources further disclosed that soldiers immediately resumed surveillance activities in the area, maintaining pressure on suspected terrorist movements as offensive operations continue across the region.
The latest success is said to be part of renewed efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt insurgent supply routes and weaken the operational strength of terror groups operating in Borno and surrounding areas.
As security forces intensify operations, many Nigerians are now watching closely to see whether these sustained ambushes could finally cripple terrorist activities in the troubled North-East
