Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, on Tuesday led a group of Nigerians in a protest at the Abuja office of MTN Nigeria, condemning the rising cost of data in the country.
In videos circulating online, Sowore and other protesters were seen chanting, “MTN ole, MTN ole!” as they stormed the telecom company’s premises, demanding urgent action over what they described as exploitative pricing.
The demonstration comes days after a viral incident involving a Nigerian man who reportedly stormed an MTN office to express frustration over data-related issues, further highlighting growing dissatisfaction among subscribers.
Reactions have since poured in on social media, with many Nigerians expressing anger toward the network provider.
One user, @lordfoster102, wrote, “Shut down every MTN Centers in Nigeria, we want them out.”
Another, @lagosconvo, commented, “Sowore is everywhere. The Ngolo Kante of protests.”
Some reactions, however, took a more extreme tone, with @Diamie_x stating, “As an mtn user, their office should be burned down with immediate effect, wicked people.”
Others directed criticism at regulators instead. @IbrahimJoshua5 said, “Lol, better go and hold NCC. Leave Mtn alone.”
Several users also shared personal frustrations. @PaulEazi212 wrote, “Good movement. E no go better for MTN. I no fit use 5G take play FCMobile. Bastard network.”
Meanwhile, @itzchristunique expressed concern over public apathy, stating, “It’s so sad that many people online are acting nonchalant over this as if they are not also affected.”
The protest has intensified conversations around the cost of telecommunications services in Nigeria, with many calling for regulatory intervention and improved service delivery.
