NHIA suspends 3 pharmacies over suspected fraudulent NHIS claims

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has suspended three pharmacies over allegations of submitting fraudulent claims under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), as part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on abuse of the system.

The affected pharmacies are accused of engaging in activities suspected of being inconsistent with NHIS regulations, including questionable claims and possible billing irregularities intended to exploit the insurance system.

The NHIA says the suspension forms part of its intensified monitoring and auditing exercises aimed at protecting the sustainability of the scheme and ensuring that public funds are used appropriately.

According to the Authority, preliminary investigations suggest that the pharmacies may have processed claims that do not reflect actual services rendered, prompting immediate action while further investigations continue.
