Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has saluted workers across the country on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration, praising their resilience, dedication and critical role in driving national growth and development.
In a message issued to commemorate Workers’ Day on Friday,1 May, 2026, the First Lady extended warm greetings to Nigerian workers and acknowledged the contributions of citizens across both the public and private sectors.
She said the annual celebration provided an opportunity to honour those whose daily labour sustains the nation’s progress.
“On this year’s Workers’ Day, I extend my warm greetings and deep appreciation to all the workers across our great nation,” she said.
Tinubu noted that workers remained the backbone of Nigeria’s advancement, commending public servants, private sector professionals, artisans, entrepreneurs and others who continue to contribute to national development through hard work and sacrifice.
“Today, we celebrate the resilience, dedication, and invaluable contributions of our workers, whose daily efforts drive the growth and development of our country,” she stated.
She added, “From our public servants to private sector professionals, artisans, entrepreneurs, and all those who labour tirelessly, you are indeed the backbone of our nation’s progress.”
The First Lady also recognised the role of organised labour in promoting workers’ welfare and strengthening industrial harmony across the country.
“I commend the role of our trade unions in advocating for the well-being of our workers, and I appreciate your cooperation in strengthening our workforce,” she said.
Meanwhile, Workers’ Day, marked annually on 1 May is observed globally to celebrate the contributions of workers and highlight issues affecting labour rights, welfare and workplace standards.
Tinubu, therefore, urged Nigerians to continue valuing the dignity of labour and supporting efforts aimed at building a stronger and more productive workforce.
She concluded her message by wishing workers across the country a memorable celebration.
“Happy Workers’ Day to all Nigerians,” she said.
