Harry Kane returned to training with Bayern Munich earlier today, April 6, boosting hopes he could feature in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Real Madrid.

The striker has been managing an ankle niggle picked up on international duty with England last month. The problem forced him to withdraw from the friendly defeat to Japan at Wembley, with coach Thomas Tuchel describing it as a minor complaint.

Kane was left out of Bayern’s squad for Saturday’s 3-2 Bundesliga win over Freiburg, but he looked sharp and relaxed during the opening 15 minutes of Monday’s session, which was open to the media.

Head coach Vincent Kompany will wait until matchday evening before deciding whether to start the 32-year-old at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

So far this season, Kane has scored 48 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions, including 10 in nine Champions League matches.

Meanwhile, Bayern teenager Lennart Karl has issued a bold message ahead of the showdown in Madrid. The 18-year-old said the squad’s mood is sky-high after the weekend win.

“We have talked in the locker room about how this victory gives us a lot of confidence for the game in Madrid. It’s very important to have won. In fact, right now we feel unbeatable,” he said.

The build-up comes after contrasting domestic results. Madrid suffered a 2-1 defeat at Mallorca in La Liga, while Bayern beat Freiburg in the Bundesliga.

Bayern have lost only two matches in all competitions this season and sit nine points clear of Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga.
