Two women in Gauteng have been rushed to hospital after undergoing unsafe and unregulated injectable Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedures, once again shining a spotlight on the dangers of underground cosmetic treatments.…....
It’s understood the women began experiencing complications shortly after the procedures, which were carried out outside of a licensed medical facility by individuals who are not qualified health practitioners. They were later admitted to hospital for urgent care.
The incident has sparked renewed concern from health officials, who are warning people to be extremely cautious about “backroom” or informal cosmetic enhancements that continue to circulate on social media and word-of-mouth referrals. Many of these procedures reportedly involve unapproved substances and are done without proper hygiene or medical oversight.
Medical professionals say BBL procedures already carry serious risks even in controlled environments, but those risks increase significantly when performed illegally. Complications can range from severe infections and scarring to blood clots and other life-threatening conditions.
Authorities are again urging the public to prioritise safety over appearance, stressing that cosmetic procedures should only be done by registered, qualified surgeons in accredited medical facilities.
