During the interview, Ohaegbu stated, “For you to win the presidency, there is a need for the Southeast to partner with the North.” He made the remark while discussing coalition-building and the importance of inter-regional political cooperation in determining electoral outcomes in Nigeria.…....
Ohaegbu explained that no presidential candidate can secure victory in Nigeria without broad-based alliances that cut across regional and ethnic lines. According to him, political success in the country depends heavily on strategic partnerships, particularly between the Southeast and the Northern political blocs, which together hold significant electoral influence.
He further noted that opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections is becoming increasingly complex, with ongoing realignments, defections, and negotiations among major political actors. He argued that effective coalition-building requires compromise, trust, and a shared understanding of national priorities beyond party loyalty.
Ohaegbu also stated that political movements across Nigeria are gradually shifting from personality-driven politics to alliance-driven strategies, where collaboration between regions and political structures will play a decisive role. He added that leaders who fail to build such bridges risk weakening their national electoral chances.
He concluded by stressing that Nigeria’s democratic landscape is evolving, warning that future presidential contests will be determined not only by popularity but also by the strength of inter-regional partnerships and the ability to unify diverse political interests into a single electoral front.
