Senator Victor Umeh has said that Peter Obi was already a successful businessman before joining politics in Anambra State in 2001.…....
Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV, Umeh explained that Obi entered politics with a different approach from many politicians at the time. According to him, politics in Anambra then was heavily influenced by money, and politicians who shared cash easily became popular and influential.
Umeh said Obi was different because he avoided showing off his wealth despite being financially successful. He revealed that Obi presented him with his business profile in 2001, which showed that he owned a business worth about 25 million dollars at the time.
He also described Obi as a humble person who lived a simple lifestyle. Umeh recalled that Obi once bought a Mercedes S-Class car but later sold it and did not return to buying expensive luxury vehicles. Instead, he focused more on growing his business and building his political career.
According to Umeh, many people initially dismissed Obi when he entered politics because they did not believe his style could succeed. However, he said Obi gradually gained support as his message of change began to connect with the people of Anambra State.
In his words, “At that time, he had a 25 million dollar business in 2001. You know what it meant at that time, but you won’t see him flaunting money or wealth. He lives a very humble life, he wasn’t used to buying cars and all that. He bought a Mercedes S-class, and after some time he sold it.”
