The Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Screening Committee has officially cleared Oladipupo Adebutu to contest in the party’s governorship primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement made available to journalists on Saturday by Adebutu’s media Aide, Afolabi Orekoya, the screening exercise that was held at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja brought together governorship aspirants from across the country for the party’s mandatory verification and eligibility process.
The statement further stated that “Adebutu, a prominent chieftain of the PDP and widely regarded as one of the leading political voices in Ogun State, successfully passed the screening process, which reaffirmed his readiness for the race ahead.
“The clearance has since sparked excitement among party faithful, supporters, and stakeholders across the state, many of whom described the development as a defining moment in the collective quest for purposeful leadership, people-oriented governance, and a new direction for the state”.
The party members noted that Adebutu’s political experience, grassroots connection, and longstanding commitment to democratic ideals continue to position him as a formidable force within Ogun politics.
His clearance by the committee is seen by supporters as not just a procedural victory but a strong indication of confidence in his eligibility, competence, and vision for the state.
Also speaking after the exercise, supporters of the former governorship candidate expressed optimism that the next phase of the political process would further consolidate the growing momentum surrounding his aspiration.
Orekoya said, “Adebutu has consistently maintained his commitment to advancing policies centred on economic growth, youth empowerment, quality education, infrastructure renewal, and improved welfare for the people of Ogun State”.
With the successful screening now concluded, preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, the statement added.
