As the primary elections of the All Progressives Congress into the Federal House of Representatives commences across the country, the committee for National Assembly primaries in Nasarawa State have assured of a free, fair and credible process in the state.
Chairman of the National Assembly Primaries Election Committee in the state, Musa Mohammed Guri, gave the assurance during a press briefing at the party’s headquarters on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital.
According to him, the committee was mandated by the National leadership of the party carryout a free, fair and credible primary election in the state in order to ensure a level playing field to all aspirants vying for elective positions into the National Assembly.
He noted that the party’s leadership at the national headquarters had issued a register to the committee for each of the 13 Local Government Areas in the state for seamless verification of eligible voters during the primaries.
Guri, therefore urged all card-carrying members of the APC across the various federal constituencies to come out en mass and vote for their preferred aspirants, insisting that the committee will announce only genuine winners of the primaries as candidates of the party.
“The electoral officers have been urged to ensure that either the direct primary or consensus mode is followed depending on what is accepted by all the aspirants.
“Therefore, it is a great pleasure to be in Nasarawa State for this very critical party assignment. We will ensure that the right thing is done throughout the process of the primary elections for both the House of Representatives and senatorial positions,” he added.
While emphasising that the party will ensure that due processes are followed inline with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Guri admonished party members to be law-abiding and exhibit a sense of loyalty and discipline in order to ensure the smooth process of the primaries.
Earlier in his welcome remark, the State Chairman of the APC, Dr. Aliyu Bello assured the National Assembly election committee of maximum cooperation in order the deliver on their assignment in the state.
He called on party members and supporters to be peaceful and orderly as they go about the electioneering process, cautioning that the existing peace in the state should not the jeopardised in the guise of supporting their numerous aspirants.
