Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 30-year-old man, Bayegun Nathaniel, for the alleged abduction and killing of a 16-year-old girl, Adegbaaju Florence, in the Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government Area.
The police said the suspect allegedly collected a ransom of N500,000 from the victim’s family before killing the teenager and dumping her body in a river.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, noting that the arrest followed sustained intelligence-led operations by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
According to him, the victim was abducted on April 8, 2026, at about 5pm in Ogijo, prompting the immediate activation of the command’s anti-kidnapping response mechanism.
He said, “Upon receiving the report, the command commenced a coordinated investigation. Through sustained intelligence gathering and strategic operations, detectives arrested the suspect on May 2, 2026, at about 2pm in connection with the case.”
Babaseyi added that efforts were ongoing to recover the victim’s remains for forensic examination, assuring that the investigation would be thorough.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, expressed sympathy to the bereaved family and vowed that justice would be served.
Ojajuni reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that perpetrators of violent crimes would be brought to justice.
