When the young man noticed that he had been seen, he reportedly tried to run away from the scene. However, the people who caught him quickly chased after him and held him down before he could escape. He was then questioned by the angry residents.
During questioning, the young man allegedly admitted that he carried out the act because of what he called konji, meaning strong sexual urge. He also reportedly said that he did not have a girlfriend, and that this led him to act in that manner. He was said to be a 23-year-old man and claimed to be of Yoruba origin.
