The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has commenced medical evaluations for its personnel to assess their health, mental well-being, and stress levels.
Speaking at the commencement ceremony on Friday in Abuja, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Ahmed Sanusi, said that the medical evaluation would be a continuous exercise during his tenure.
“I want to ensure that our officers are routinely checked, and I also want to advice them to undergo such tests in their private capacities.
“However, as an institution, this medical evaluation of personnel will be a continuous exercise throughout my tenure as the FCT CP.
“As we conclude this first phase, we will allow for a brief interval before reassembling to screen them again.
“This is because medical issues can sometimes arise spontaneously,” Sanusi said.
The CP disclosed that the initiative aimed to help officers maintain good health and effectively manage stress at all times.
He commended the medical team for their excellent work, noting that some results were already being processed.
“Based on what we have observed and what the medical team has told me, we are gathering valuable data that can be used for proper planning and to provide advice that will benefit the force generally,” he said.
He explained that the medical evaluation was comprehensive and includes all personnel from every area command and division within the FCT.
He added that the command, however, chose to begin the exercise with personnel from the Metro Central Command as it was the primary host command within the FCT.
He also said that result of each personnel from the evaluation exercise was private to the individual.
“We have informed our officers that although we are conducting this evaluation collectively as a force, the results are individual to each person.
“No one will be permitted to know another person’s result.
“The process is private and falls within the medical practitioners’ code of conduct, which requires confidentiality regarding patients’ medical conditions,” he concluded.(NAN)
