Nigeria’s First Lady and National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has commissioned a state-of-the-art ICT Experience Centre at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti, in a move aimed at expanding digital education and technology access for young Nigerians.
The ICT facility, delivered through a partnership between the Renewed Hope Initiative and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), is expected to strengthen digital learning, innovation, research and skills development within the university community.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Saturday, Senator Tinubu described the ICT Experience Centre as a strategic investment in education, innovation and youth empowerment. She noted that the facility would provide students and other beneficiaries with the tools and digital skills needed to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven economy.
According to her, Nigeria’s future competitiveness depends largely on the ability of young people to acquire relevant technological knowledge and apply it to innovation, entrepreneurship and national development.
The First Lady said the project represents another major intervention under the Renewed Hope Initiative, which focuses on supporting women, youths and students across the country through programmes designed to improve opportunities and human capital development.
She expressed confidence that the centre would become a hub for learning, creativity and technological advancement, creating opportunities for students to develop practical digital skills that can prepare them for the evolving demands of the global economy.
“I’m really happy to be in Ekiti, this is part of the programme that the Tinubu administration is rendering in partnership with the Renewed Hope Initiative which I chair, and TETFund, we were able to give this center to you and I pray that more will come to the state. We have done a lot of work in Ekiti State through the office of the First Lady,” Senator Tinubu said.

In their separate remarks, the Chancellor of the university, Dr Tunji Olowolafe, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof Babatola Ayodele, commended Senator Tinubu for facilitating the project. They described the centre as a valuable investment in the institution’s future and a reflection of the Federal Government’s commitment to human capital development.
Both university leaders said the facility would play a significant role in enhancing digital learning, research and innovation within the institution. They also pledged to ensure that the centre is effectively utilised to support technological advancement and improve learning outcomes for students.
The commissioning of the ICT Experience Centre adds to ongoing efforts to improve access to technology infrastructure in Nigeria’s tertiary education sector and highlights the growing focus on equipping young Nigerians with digital skills needed to participate in the country’s emerging digital economy.
