A member of the House of Representatives representing Ogbomosho North/Ogbomosho South/Oriire Federal Constituency, Olamijuwonlo Alao Akala, has condemned the recent bandit attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, describing the incident as a direct assault on the education sector and public safety.
Akala made the condemnation during a condolence visit to Oko-Ile community following the attack on Baptist Primary School, Yawota, and Community High School, Esin-Ele, where several students and the school principal were reportedly abducted by gunmen.
Describing the incident as “inhumane” and unacceptable, the lawmaker said the growing insecurity in the area poses a serious threat to homes, schools, and communities.
“This inhumane criminal act, which has been going on for a while now, is a direct assault on our educational system and a grave threat to our collective safety and wellbeing in our homes, schools, and communities. It is unacceptable and strongly condemned,” he said.
He appealed to security agencies in Ogbomoso and across Oyo State to intensify efforts towards rescuing the abducted victims and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
Akala also called on the Federal Government to expedite action on the implementation of state policing and establish a military base in Oriire Local Government Area to curb recurring attacks and bloodshed in the area.
“I am using this opportunity to appeal and call on the security operatives in Ogbomoso and across Oyo State to immediately swing into action to rescue the abducted and apprehend the perpetrators of this evil act,” he stated.
He added that he would continue to engage relevant stakeholders and monitor developments until normalcy is restored.
The lawmaker further extended condolences to families affected by the attack and prayed for the safe return of all abducted victims.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the families of those who lost their lives in this unfortunate incident, and I pray for the quick, safe, and unharmed return of all the abducted victims,” he added.
