The political rift within the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified as the party’s national secretariat disqualified more than 60 aspirants linked to Governor Siminalayi Fubara from contesting the 2027 House of Assembly primaries.
A screening list released by the party showed that dozens of aspirants were not cleared across multiple constituencies in Rivers State, in what has been described as one of the most sweeping setbacks for the governor’s political camp within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The disqualifications cut across several constituencies, including Okrika, Khana, Omuma, Ahoada East, Obio/Akpor, Ikwerre, Andoni and Akuku-Toru, signalling a widespread impact on the party’s internal structure in the state.
Among those affected are Berebupakabo Isaac Sekibo, Tamunodiepriye Fubara Goodluck Ohaka, Tonye Garrick Tom-George, Prince Emukighro Fubara, and Tamunobaraiba George, all believed to be aligned with the governor’s political network.
Party sources said the screening exercise was conducted by the APC national leadership, though no official reasons were immediately provided for the mass disqualification.
In contrast, 33 aspirants were cleared to proceed to the primaries. Many of those approved are reportedly aligned with the political bloc loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, deepening the existing factional divide within the state chapter of the party.
Those cleared include Maol Dumle, Tonye Smart Adoki, Kenneth Minimah, Justina Aniton Okorji and Arnold O. Davids.
The development follows earlier exclusions of Fubara-linked aspirants from the party’s Senate and House of Representatives primaries in Rivers State, further escalating the ongoing power struggle within the APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
