The Rivers State Police Command has announced new restrictions on tricycle (Keke) operations in parts of Port Harcourt in response to a rise in attacks by the notorious “one chance” robbery syndicate.
The directive was issued on Monday, May 11, 2026, by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju. The move is part of a broader set of security measures aimed at curbing street crimes that specifically target commuters in the state.
According to the Command, intelligence reports linked several robbery and abduction incidents to suspects operating with tricycles along major routes within the metropolis.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the development, saying the restriction became necessary to safeguard residents and restore order in the transport system.
She said: “We have recorded disturbing cases where criminals disguise as tricycle operators to rob unsuspecting passengers. The restriction is to help us flush out these criminal elements and protect lives and property”.
She added that joint police patrol teams have been deployed across Port Harcourt to enforce compliance and ensure genuine operators are not unduly harassed.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant, avoid boarding suspicious or unregistered tricycles, and promptly report any suspicious activity to security agencies.
