Kidnappers release video of ex-military spokesman Maj.-Gen. Rabe, wife in captivity

A video showing retired major general Rabe Abubakar, former director of defence information and his wife in captivity has surfaced online, days after they were reportedly abducted in Katsina state.

The footage, which has circulated across social media platforms and security circles, shows the retired military officer and his wife appearing to plead for their release while surrounded by armed men at an undisclosed location.

The video is the first visual confirmation of the couple’s whereabouts since reports emerged that they were kidnapped along the Matazu axis of Katsina state while travelling through the area.

Security sources said the abductors may be using the footage to pressure authorities and relatives as negotiations continue. Reports indicate that the kidnappers are allegedly demanding the release of some of their detained associates in exchange for the freedom of the retired general and his wife.

Major General Abubakar and his wife were reportedly seized by armed men during an attack in Katsina State. Their driver was said to have escaped with gunshot injuries, while their vehicle was later recovered by security operatives.

The incident has renewed concerns over the growing insecurity in northwestern Nigeria, particularly in Katsina State, where kidnapping and banditry remain persistent challenges.

As of press time, neither the Nigerian military nor the Katsina state police command had issued an official statement regarding the video or the conditions being demanded by the abductors.
