The incident, which has since sparked outrage, occurred on a busy section of the bridge, drawing shocked reactions from motorists and passersby. Despite the heavy flow of traffic and pedestrians, the act reportedly continued uninterrupted until onlookers began recording.
According to eyewitnesses, a passenger in a stationary vehicle managed to record the incident. The video, which is now circulating rapidly on social media, shows the suspect actively engaged in the act with the vulnerable woman, who appeared disoriented and unable to resist or understand the situation. Neither party made any attempt to conceal themselves, despite the heavy midday traffic and clear visibility.
One witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the scene as sickening and inhuman.
Everyone was shouting, honking horns, but the man seemed completely unbothered. The woman clearly has mental health issues; she wasn’t in her right senses. It was exploitation, pure evil, the witness said.
Preliminary reports from the scene suggest the man is a suspected Yahoo Boy (a local term for advance-fee fraudsters), though this has not been officially confirmed by authorities. Some angry bystanders reportedly attempted to intervene, but the suspect allegedly fled the scene as soon as he realized he was being recorded.
The video has triggered widespread condemnation on social media, with many Nigerians calling on the Lagos State Police Command and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs to track down the suspect immediately.
This is not just indecent exposure. It is sexual assault on a person who cannot consent, said a Lagos-based legal practitioner reacting to the video. Under Nigerian law, having sex with someone of unsound mind, regardless of their actions, is a serious crime. The man must be arrested and the woman given urgent medical and psychological care.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement. Meanwhile, activists are urging anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to report to the nearest police station.
