A wave of grief and outrage has swept across Oyo State following the reported killing of Mr. Michael Oyedokun, one of the teachers abducted during an attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
Mr. Oyedokun was among several teachers kidnapped by armed bandits who invaded the school community last week, throwing residents, students, and families into panic. Reports emerging on Sunday revealed that the teacher was allegedly beheaded by his captors in a shocking act that has further heightened fears over insecurity in parts of the country.
The tragic development has drawn condemnation from government officials, community leaders, and concerned Nigerians who described the killing as cruel, barbaric, and heartbreaking.
Governor Seyi Makinde, while reacting to the incident, confirmed that security agencies are actively working to rescue the remaining victims still being held in captivity. The governor also disclosed that several suspects linked to the attack have reportedly been arrested as investigations continue.
According to local reports, the attackers stormed schools within the Ahoro-Esinle area and abducted multiple teachers during the raid. The exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, although authorities believe the incident is connected to rising criminal activities and banditry affecting some rural communities.
Residents of the area have continued to express fear and anger over the worsening security situation, calling on the Federal Government and security agencies to strengthen protection around schools and communities.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also condemned the killing and reportedly directed security operatives to intensify efforts toward rescuing the remaining abducted victims and bringing those responsible to justice.
