Six people have been injured following a stabbing incident at Foss High School in Washington, authorities have confirmed.
According to the Tacoma Police Department, the attack occurred on Thursday afternoon after what officials described as an altercation on school premises. Five students and an adult security guard were among those injured and were taken to hospital by the Tacoma Fire Department. All victims are now reported to be in stable condition.
Police said the suspect, identified as a student at the school, was quickly apprehended at the scene. The individual, who also sustained minor injuries, has been booked on five counts of first-degree assault.
Emergency services responded to reports of an active assault at approximately 13:35 local time, securing the area and providing immediate medical assistance. Initial reports had indicated that several victims were in critical condition, but officials later confirmed that all had stabilised.
A police spokesperson noted that investigations are ongoing, with authorities working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Members of the public have been urged to provide any video evidence that could assist the inquiry.
In response to the incident, school authorities announced that Foss High School will remain closed on Friday, with plans to reopen on Monday. Counselling services will be made available to support students and staff affected by the attack.
The incident has renewed concerns about safety in schools, particularly at Foss High School, which was the site of a fatal shooting in 2007.
