The factional leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under Kabiru Turaki has vowed to proceed with its planned special convention to ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s 2027 presidential candidate despite fresh warnings from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The development follows a directive reportedly backed by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordering hotels and event centres in Abuja to recognise only political party leadership acknowledged by INEC, while warning that facilities used by “illegal organisations” risk sanctions, including possible revocation of property titles.
Despite the threat, the Turaki-led PDP faction insisted the convention scheduled for Saturday at A-Class Park and Event Centre in Abuja would go ahead as planned, describing attempts to stop the gathering as intimidation targeted at opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections....... .
