Residents of Ikorodu in Lagos State were thrown into tension after members of the OPC Dependable Security Team reportedly arrested suspected Fulani herdsmen found with two vehicles allegedly loaded with guns, bullets, and explosive devices.
According to information gathered, the incident reportedly occurred at a scrap yard located around Powerline Unity Estate CDA, Poromope, Idiroko, along the Itamaga-Ijede Road in Ikorodu.
Local sources claimed that operatives of the OPC Dependable Security Team carried out a security operation in the area following intelligence reports about suspicious activities around the scrap yard. During the operation, the team allegedly intercepted two vehicles said to contain dangerous weapons, including firearms, live ammunition, and suspected explosive materials.
Videos and photographs circulating on social media showed several security operatives and residents gathered around the vehicles while the recovered items were displayed publicly. The development quickly sparked fear and reactions among residents of the community, with many expressing concerns over rising insecurity in different parts of the country.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the suspects were attempting to conceal the items within the scrap yard before they were discovered by the local security team. However, details surrounding the exact number of suspects arrested and the origin of the weapons remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Lagos State Police Command were still ongoing at the time this report was published. Authorities have also not yet released a formal statement regarding the authenticity of the viral videos and claims linked to the incident.
The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), known for community security operations across parts of southwestern Nigeria, has in recent years worked alongside local vigilante groups in assisting with intelligence gathering and neighborhood security efforts.
