Talent manager Bankulli has dismissed the popular idea of a “Big 3” in Afrobeats, describing it as an illusion often driven by social media narratives and clickbait culture.
Speaking during a recent podcast appearance on Tochi Talks, he argued that every artist in the industry has their own unique role and contribution, rather than belonging to a fixed hierarchy of dominance.

“There is nothing like Big 3, it is all an illusion,” he said, drawing a comparison to religious history to explain his point. “Before Jesus came, there was John the Baptist and other prophets, and everyone had their roles to play. Are we going to say Moses is greater than Abraham?”
He emphasized that talent is widespread across the music industry, mentioning artists such as Davido, Burna Boy, Rema, and Joeboy as examples of individuals who have all achieved success through their own abilities.
“I don’t believe in the Big 3. Everybody comes up with something to cause clickbait. Everybody is talented and that’s how I see it,” he added.
Bankulli further noted that newer-generation artists like Rema have continued to thrive without necessarily aligning with the so-called “Big 3,” pointing out that success in Afrobeats is not limited to a select group of names.
