Sheila Jepkorir Chebii, a 25-year-old Kenyan woman from Eldoret, died suddenly in Sydney, Australia.

Her death occurred just over a month after she relocated to Australia on April 5, 2026, to pursue her studies and a career as a financial consultant.

While official investigations are ongoing, there are conflicting reports and family concerns regarding the cause of death.

A TikToker, Maxie Cherop, has questioned what happened to the Kenyan woman after a report from the police revealed that she fell from the 19th to the fourth floor while working inside a hotel.

“I want to understand how someone can fall from the 19th floor and land exactly on the fourth floor. Inside the house that’s what the police report says. Gravity pulls us down not sideways. The building has no railings, no balconies. It’s not adding up bado haiingi kabisaa,” she said.

According to a message the TikToker shared from the funeral committee, the police had informed the family of their daughter’s final moments.

Since the family was informed of their daughter’s death, they have been trying to get answers on what exactly transpired.

“We wish to update the Kenyan community regarding the tragic passing of our sister, Sheila, in Sydney. Australia. On Sunday, May 17 evening, the family was informed by police of Sheila’s passing following an incident at her workplace in Meriton Hotel, Sussex St, in Sydney. Since then, the family, together with community leaders and close friends, have been engaging with police, forensic medicine officers, social workers, and the funeral home in an effort to understand the circumstances surrounding her death and to facilitate identification and release of the body,” part of the message reads.

The family reported that they experienced a delay in communication while seeking answers and making arrangements to view Sheila.

:Throughout the week, with so much difficulty, the family experienced delays and limited communication while seeking answers and arrangements to view Sheila. Community leaders and friends accompanied the family through the difficult process of police visits, forensic appointments, and body identification procedures.”

The family representatives were finally able to view her body on May 20, and arrangements were made to release the body to a funeral home.

“On May 20, family representatives and close friends were finally able to identify Sheila at the Lidcombe forensic medicine facility formally. Thereafter, arrangements were made for the release and transfer of her body to Lanood Funeral Services in Greenacre.”

The statement further showed that the family was not content with the police report and labelled the information given as inconsistent.

“This was done yesterday, on May 22, and the community were able to have a viewing. However. We are distraught because the state of Sheila’s body is completely inconsistent with the information given that she fell from the Meriton hotel, level 19 to level 4. The family and community remain deeply saddened and emotionally affected by the events surrounding Sheila’s passing, and many questions remain unanswered as investigations continue.”
