A fresh political war has erupted in Osun State after the APC accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of allegedly sheltering wanted criminals inside the Government House in Osogbo. The explosive allegation has triggered a fierce exchange of words, with both camps refusing to back down.
The controversy intensified after the Inspector-General of Police reportedly raised concerns during a visit to the Government House. While Governor Adeleke firmly denied the allegation and challenged security agencies to arrest anyone found guilty, the APC insisted his response failed to answer the serious accusations.
The opposition party claimed that wanted suspects were being protected from arrest and alleged that a viral video and photographs support its claims. According to the APC, the governor’s denial was an attempt to avoid addressing what it described as a serious security issue.
However, Adeleke’s camp hit back immediately, branding the allegations as false, reckless, and politically motivated. The governor’s allies argued that the claims unfairly questioned the integrity of police officers responsible for securing the Government House and insisted there was no evidence that criminals were being harboured there.
In a statement signed by its spokesperson, the Osun APC maintained that the governor’s reaction was evasive and accused him of failing to properly address the allegations.
The party also claimed that individuals on the police wanted list had previously been seen around the Government House and alleged that some had political links to the current administration.
Responding, the Director of Strategic Communication for the Imole Campaign Council, Jamiu Olawumi, dismissed the accusations as baseless and said the APC was merely trying to score political points.
He argued that police personnel stationed at the Government House operate under the authority of the Nigeria Police Force, making it unreasonable to suggest that criminals could be hidden there without security agencies being aware.
Olawumi further accused the APC of judging Adeleke’s administration based on how the party allegedly governed the state while it was in power.
Governor Adeleke has maintained that no one should be shielded from justice, insisting that security agencies should arrest and prosecute anyone found guilty of any crime, regardless of political affiliation or family relationship.
Editor’s note: The APC has made allegations, while Governor Adeleke’s camp has strongly denied them. As of the information provided, these claims remain disputed and have not been independently established.
