President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the incoming Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in what is described as a planned leadership transition for the examination body.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the appointment is part of a succession arrangement that will see Prof. Aina assume office after the expiration of the tenure of the current Registrar of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose term is expected to end on July 31, 2026.
The announcement, which was made on behalf of the Federal Government, clarifies that the appointment is not an immediate replacement but a forward-looking decision aimed at ensuring continuity in the management of Nigeria’s tertiary admission system.
Prof. Aina, a renowned academic in engineering and digital systems, is currently a professor at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU). He is widely recognized for his contributions to information and communication technology (ICT) development and educational technology reforms in Nigeria. He gained prominence early in his career after becoming one of the youngest professors in his field.
The Presidency noted that his selection reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen digital infrastructure and improve transparency within the admissions process, which has undergone significant reforms in recent years under the leadership of the outgoing registrar, Professor Oloyede.
Bola Tinubu has consistently emphasized reforms in education and public examination systems as part of his administration’s broader agenda for institutional efficiency and digital transformation.
