Tinubu Approves 30-Day Visa-Free Access for Rwandan Nationals

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially approved a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of Rwanda as part of a new reciprocal agreement aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between both African nations.

The development was announced by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) following directives issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2026 Africa CEO Forum held in Kigali, Rwanda.

Under the new arrangement, Rwandan citizens can now enter Nigeria without obtaining a visa and stay for up to 30 days for lawful activities such as tourism, business meetings, and official engagements.

Authorities explained that travelers intending to remain in Nigeria beyond the approved period would still be required to apply for the appropriate visa or residence permits through Nigerian diplomatic missions or the country’s e-Visa platform.

Officials described the agreement as a reciprocal diplomatic gesture, noting that Rwanda had already been offering visa-free access to Nigerian citizens for short-term visits. The latest move by Nigeria is expected to further deepen bilateral relations between both countries.

Speaking on the importance of the policy, President Tinubu reportedly emphasized the need for stronger African integration, easier movement across the continent, and improved cooperation among African nations.

The Nigeria Immigration Service confirmed that all international airports, land borders, and seaports across the country have been directed to begin immediate implementation of the policy.
