His statement has drawn attention within the political space as discussions about the future leadership of the state continue to grow among party members and supporters.

Adelabu explained that his political ambition had been known to the president for a long time and that there was an understanding between both of them regarding his desire to govern Oyo State.

According to him, President Tinubu acknowledged his long-standing ambition and encouraged him to begin preparations for the election after leaving office as minister.

Adelabu stated that the president assured him that he would not stand in the way of his political pursuit despite the value of having him remain within the federal administration.

He said the president advised him to begin political consultations and mobilization efforts immediately in preparation for the contest ahead.

While speaking to supporters, Adelabu also described himself as the only true political son of Tinubu in Oyo State.

The comment appeared to highlight the closeness of his relationship with the president and his confidence in receiving political support within the APC structure.

He further disclosed that the president had promised to help facilitate a consensus arrangement within the party.

The idea of a consensus candidate has become a common strategy in many political parties across Nigeria, especially when leaders seek to avoid internal conflicts and divisions before primary elections.

Adelabu’s remarks have therefore increased discussions among party loyalists regarding the possibility of the APC presenting a unified candidate ahead of the governorship election.

Despite the growing speculation surrounding endorsements within the party, Adelabu clarified that he has not publicly endorsed any particular candidate for any position at the moment.

He stressed that his current focus remains on consultations and engaging stakeholders across the state.

Political observers believe that his comments were aimed at reassuring supporters who may have been uncertain about his next political move after leaving the ministerial position.

His declaration also comes at a time when different political figures within the APC are believed to be positioning themselves ahead of the governorship race in Oyo State.

The development is expected to intensify political activities within the party as aspirants continue to seek support from party leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots members.

He said, “Tinubu said Bayo the time has come, we had an agreement, you have been on this for long, this young ambition of yours. In as much as I love to have you around me, I will not stop you from pursuing your ambition; resign as Minister and go start work immediately, by God’s grace that’s what Tinubu told me.”
