Tinubu Vows Rescue Of Abducted Oyo Pupils, Teachers, Condemns Killing

President Bola Tinubu on Monday assured that all students and teachers abducted during last Friday’s attack on schools in Oyo State would be rescued, as he condemned the killing of one of the victims.

The President described the murder of the teacher as “barbaric” and extended condolences to the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, the state government and families affected by the tragedy.

Gunmen had invaded Esiele community in Oriire Local Government Area, abducting staff and pupils of Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School, sparking outrage across the state.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu said security agencies had intensified efforts to secure the release of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I am saddened by the reported killing of one of the teachers kidnapped by the gunmen. I sympathise with Governor Makinde and the families of the victims,” the President said.

He added that the Federal Government was working closely with the Oyo State Government to ensure the safe return of those in captivity.

Tinubu commended the Inspector-General of Police for the swift deployment of tactical teams, including the Intelligence Response Team, noting that a technology-driven rescue operation was ongoing.

“The IGP, following my instructions, is personally leading the operation. We expect a breakthrough soon. The bandits and their collaborators will be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he stated.

The President also renewed calls for the establishment of state police, saying the rising wave of kidnappings underscored the need for decentralised policing.

“Cases like this further make imperative the creation of state police to secure underserved areas. The National Assembly should expedite action on the required legislation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Makinde on Sunday confirmed that seven teachers were abducted in the attack, alongside an unspecified number of pupils.

The governor disclosed that one of the victims, identified as a Mathematics teacher, was killed by the abductors after a video of the incident surfaced.

“Our prayers are with the family. We will not relent until all those abducted are safely rescued,” Makinde said.

In protest, teachers in Ogbomoso on Monday shut down classrooms and staged a peaceful demonstration to the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission office, demanding urgent government action.

The protesters carried placards calling for improved security in schools and safer learning environments, while urging authorities at all levels to intensify rescue efforts.
