“We Want The Truth, Not Property” — Family Member Demands Clarity Over Alex Ekubo’s Hospitalisation, Death

A family member of late Nigerian public figure, Alex Ekubo, David Ekubo, has demanded clarity over the circumstances surrounding his death, insisting that the family’s concern is to know the truth and not to lay claim to his property.

David, in a statement shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, raised questions over the events that led to Alex’s hospitalisation and eventual death.

He asked who took Alex to the hospital, when he arrived there, and whether he was still alive at the time he was taken in.

“What happened to Alex? Who took him to the hospital? When did he get there? Was he alive when he got to the hospital? We want to know,” he said.

David dismissed suggestions that the family’s demand for answers was connected to inheritance or property.

According to him, he neither knows the properties Alex owned nor has any interest in them.

“My concern has absolutely nothing to do with Alex’s property. I neither know what properties he had nor am I interested in them,” he stated.

He explained that Alex was the only son of his father, who is still alive, and had no male siblings to speak for him, adding that as a member of the Ekubo family, he had a right to ask questions about the circumstances of his death.

David said his concerns were heightened by personal conversations he had with Alex shortly before his death, during which he claimed the late public figure did not appear seriously ill.

He recalled that during one of their conversations, Alex switched from a voice call to a video call to personally address rumours that he had left social media because of illness.

“He told me to look at him carefully and asked, ‘Do I look sick to you?’ From what I saw, he did not appear ill,” David said.

He also questioned the reported timeline of Alex’s alleged cancer diagnosis, asking how the illness could have allegedly progressed from stage one to stage four within a short period.

“If Alex was diagnosed with cancer, how did the illness progress from stage one to stage four suddenly? We are not interested in fabricated documents or speculation; we simply want the truth and official records,” he added.

David further raised concerns over what he described as a blood patch on Alex’s left eye, saying he had asked Alex’s stepmother for clarification.

According to him, she reportedly told him that “something had occurred” and that eye drops were already being used for treatment, a response he said left him with more unanswered questions.

The family’s demand has sparked reactions online, with many calling for transparency and official clarification on the circumstances surrounding Alex’s death.

As of the time of filing this report, no official response had been issued to the concerns raised by David Ekubo.
