The member representing Bichi Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabir-Bichi, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a N1.5 trillion railway project for Kano State, describing it as a major step toward transforming the state’s economy.
Mr Bichi said the project, which is captured in the 2025 Appropriation Act, reflects the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
According to him, the railway project will enhance connectivity, ease transportation within Kano metropolis and further strengthen the state’s position as a major commercial hub in northern Nigeria.
He noted that the rail line would facilitate trade, create employment opportunities and stimulate economic activities across the state, adding that modern railway systems have proven effective in boosting urban development in major cities around the world.
The lawmaker also praised President Tinubu’s broader development agenda, particularly investments in critical sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, agriculture and education.
Mr Bichi dismissed claims that the Tinubu administration had neglected northern Nigeria, insisting that several key projects had been initiated across the region.
He listed ongoing projects to include the Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road, the Abuja-Kaduna highway, the Kano Northern Bypass, and the construction of a state-of-the-art Emergency and Trauma Centre at the Mallam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.
According to him, the projects demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to the development of the North and have strengthened public confidence in the administration.
Mr Bichi expressed optimism that the people of Kano State would reciprocate the administration’s efforts with strong support during the 2027 general elections.
