In a post on social media, Trump said the Strait of Hormuz “must be immediately open, with no tolls, for unrestricted shipping traffic in both directions.”
He added that ships stranded in the strait due to the blockade “may start the process of heading home”.
Trump also claimed that several naval mines in the area had already been removed through detonations carried out by US underwater mine sweepers. He said Iran would complete the “immediate removal and/or detonation” of any remaining mines in the waterway.
The US President further said no money would be exchanged “until further notice”, while adding that “other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to”.
Reiterating Washington’s position on Tehran’s nuclear programme, Trump said, “Iran must agree that they will never have a nuclear weapon or bomb.”
He also said enriched uranium and nuclear material would be identified and handled in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Trump added that he would meet officials in the Situation Room to make a “final determination” on the matter.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes, handling a significant share of global oil and energy trade.
